Marshall appointed to master role

Professor John Marshall (centre) has been installed as master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers at a service in London.

He took up the role at the company's Annual Service of Thanksgiving, Remembrance and Rededication, at St Bride's Church, Fleet Street, last week. Meanwhile, Gordon Jones (left) was installed as upper warden and Chris Hunt (right) made renter warden. Professor Marshall's research into laser devices has resulted in the development of the excimer laser used in refractive surgery.

He is also Frost Professor of Ophthalmology at the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College, London, and an ambassador for vision charities including Fight for Sight.
