Maui Jim has considered Europe as a potential location for manufacturing when its US prescription laboratory in Peoria reaches capacity.
Speaking in Dubai, Hans Penzek, vice president Europe said that while capacity at the firm's prescription lab in the USA was not running out, the location of a possible new lab had been discussed. 'Business in Europe is going very well, we often wonder where it comes from,' he added. The lack of a 'hot style' in the general sunglass market and strong growth in European countries had allowed it to expand the prescription business. France continues to be Maui Jim's star market, followed by Germany. Other markets such as Italy had proved more problematic but, he said, ' the UK is growing strongly.'
