North America may be suffering record low temperatures thanks to the polar vortex but workers at Maui Jim’s Peoria Illinois plant are made of stern stuff.
A spokeswoman for the firm said Maui Jim’s surfacing, repair and despatch facility had continued to run smoothly through the cold and plans were progressing for the firm’s annual winter swim for charity.
’We like the cold so much that in February each year, we host the "Dive for Cover” event where we raise money for Peoria’s South Side Mission by jumping into the frozen pond in front of our headquarters.’
Maui Jim’s workers are joined by other Peorians in the event which has raised a total of $500,000.
