Boots Opticians has beefed up its management following its presentations to staff of its new staff opportunities programme.
Chas McShane, a Boots regional director, has been drafted in to oversee the 290- plus outlet chain. 'Chas has been seconded to help the integration of Boots Opticians into Boots The Chemist, and bring along some operational nous to the business,' said a spokesman.
McShane has had a long track record within the Boots group, he said.
In another development, Alex Gourlay, formerly retail director at the Boots Group, will take responsibility for the healthcare business unit within the company, which includes Boots Opticians.
He will report directly to Boots plc chief executive Richard Baker who has four others in his executive team.
He and Ian Filby, who has been appointed beauty and lifestyle director, will take on the roles previously manned by David Kneale, chief commercial officer, who is to leave Boots.
Gourlay will be responsible for Boots 'Healthcare First' initiative, and the future development of store formats. A pharmacist by profession, Gourlay first joined Boots in 1976 as a Saturday assistant.
