Moorfields Eye Hospital has appointed consultant ophthalmologist and clinical director, Louisa Wickham, as medical director after Nick Strouthidis stepped down to focus on clinical practice.
Wickham joined the trust as a consultant in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina in 2009 and was appointed joint medical director of Moorfields South in 2012.
She said it was a huge privilege to be medical director at Moorfields, an organisation which she added had been a huge part of her professional life.
‘As we continue to deliver world-leading eye care against the backdrop of the pandemic, I am committed to making sure our patients get the expert care and treatment they need,’ Wickham said.
David Probert, chief executive at Moorfields Eye Hospital, added that he was delighted that Wickham had taken on the role of medical director.
‘As well as being a widely respected clinician, she has demonstrated a tremendous range of leadership skills in response to the pandemic, including innovating at pace to increase the care available to our patients in the face of the current complexities and challenges,’ he said.
