MEPs vote for disclosure of disciplinary records

MEPs have voted in favour of disclosing to regulatory bodies across the European Union details of disciplinary hearings for all health professionals including optical practitioners in a bid to protect patients from those deemed 'incompetent' or 'dangerous'.

Last week, MEPs voted in the European Parliament to support the call from the Alliance of UK Health Regulators on Europe (AURE) for regulatory authorities across the EU to alert each other about disciplinary action taken against their members. The aim is to clamp down on those individuals who are struck off in their home country but attempt to gain employment in another EU state.
