Director David Moore told optician he was unable to give a figure of job losses at this time, as the staff are currently considering the offer of a transfer to the new site.
He said: 'The move is the result of discussions about local European implementation. It was decided that Pentax Vision Europe should be separate from Pentax UK, but there was a difficulty in physically separating without moving out of the building. Gloucester was chosen because of its location, halfway between Birmingham and Bristol. Most lens manufacturers are there and therefore there is a labour pool which is easy to draw from.'
The unit will operate under the management of DŸsseldorf-based Seiko Optical Europe, reflecting the worldwide arrangement, but would 'continue to run as it is'. Moore added: 'Seiko plans to leave us to carry on as we are.'
