Michael Tillotson

Optician sadly reports that former secretary general of the Association of Contact Lens Manufacturers and Euromcontact, Michael Tillotson has died at the age of 95. This tribute was provided by Don Grocott. 

‘In addition to his remarkable military career, reaching the third most senior rank in the army, Tillotson’s impact on the contact lens industry was very significant. At a time when the European Economic Community was developing regulations for contact lens and contact lens solutions, Micky, as he was widely known, worked to ensure that the regulations were not damaging to the industry.

‘After extensive negotiation in Brussels, this was achieved. Micky headed the initiative to form the pan-European federation of contact lens manufacturers, Euromcontact, and became its first secretary general.
