Microperimetry may detect early retinal sensitivity loss in patients with diabetes in advance of any clinically visible signs of retinopathy.
A study published in this month's Retina Journal showed how the technique, where individual light detection thresholds are married to specific locations, was able to reveal reduced foveal retinal sensitivity in diabetics without retinopathy compared with those with the condition.
