Over 5.3 million drivers take to the wheel with incorrect vision either because they don't wear glasses prescribed to them or don't wear correction despite having problems seeing.
Motor insurer LV= commissioned the research among nearly 2,500 motorists and followed it up with number plate sight tests for a further 256 randomly selected drivers.
The online survey revealed that 45 per cent of the UK's 34.7 million motorists are prescribed glasses but around one in 10 fail to always wear them while driving. Among those not prescribed glasses, 23 per cent confess that their eyesight isn't perfect, 11 per cent have difficulty seeing at night and a further 6 per cent struggle to see in poor weather. A third of this group have not had their eyes examined in the past five years and 13 per cent have not been in the past 10 years if at all.
