A group of UK optometrists and other health professionals have completed a charity mission to Malawi, where they treated over 5,000 patients and educated staff on the importance of hygiene.
Optometrist Nira Radia and a team of 48 health professionals spent a week in the Mulanje District.
They dealt with a wide range of cases such as snake poison in the eye, HIV-related fundii, meibomitis and trachoma.
Among the tools they used were hand washing flashcards provided by Johnson & Johnson's Vision Care Institute. UK practitioners can download a hand hygiene poster to help promote good hand hygiene in optical practice from www.thevisioncareinstitute.co.uk.
