Moorfields and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology launch new ophthalmic course

A new ophthalmology master’s course has been launched by Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology (IoO).

Due to begin in September, the Ophthalmic Clinical Practice MSc course will offer nurses and allied health professionals the chance to expand their knowledge and could help them progress into jobs in ophthalmic practice and nurse consultant roles. The mainly online course will also help to address the need for more advanced trained experts in an ophthalmic clinical setting.

Helen Gibbons, clinical lead nurse at Moorfields Eye Hospital, said: ‘I’m very excited to be the program director for the MSc Ophthalmic Practice. The course provides nurses with the underpinning knowledge base in order to understand the presenting pathology of the patients they treat. It supports the development of clinical skills which enables students to develop autonomous practice, leading to greater efficiency and patient satisfaction.’
