Specsavers founder, Dame Mary Perkins, has warned that the current economic climate could see the disappearance of other optical practices from the high street, following the news of the merger between Boots Opticians and rival optical chain Dollond & Aitchison
In a statement, commenting on the merger of the two optical chains, she said: 'It is always sad to see an old established name disappear from our high streets and I'm sure that we will see many others follow - not just opticians. Happily, Specsavers are well placed in these recessionary times and will continue with our robust expansion plans for 2009/10.'
