The deal between M&S Opticians and Galaxy Optical has fallen through due to a failure to reach agreement over the roll out.
A source has reported that staff at the Derby practice have been told that they are closing and no longer have a job there.
A spokesperson from Galaxy Optical said: ‘Following the phase one roll out of M&S Opticians, we have unfortunately been unable to reach an agreement with M&S for a national store rollout that is commercially viable for Galaxy, resulting in the immediate closure of the six current branches. All existing orders will be fulfilled – this has been communicated to all of our customers. We are working with all parties involved to ensure a successful conclusion.’
