New website Myglassesclub.co.uk has launched what it believes is the world’s first subscription-based glasses club and has promised to rethink eyewear retail in a ‘visionary and socially conscious way’.
The site offered customers what was described as ‘top-quality, designer prescription eyewear at a fraction of the going price’ from 99p per month plus a one-off £30 joining fee.
A company spokesperson said that the cost of glasses had always been disproportionate compared to actual manufacturing costs. ‘The market is high-profit, yet in terms of innovation the technology has mainly remained the same for the past 800 years,’ they added.
