The MyoVision lens patented by CIBA Vision and currently at the centre of myopia control research is made from the same material as Air Optix lenses, the company has revealed at a series of roadshows around the UK.
MyoVision was the subject of much interest at the recent BCLA where early results of trials appeared to indicate that its use in young myopes had a significant effect in slowing down the rate of myopic progression. The lens provides a clear on-axis focus but a positive focus to the peripheral retina. Researchers believe that a peripheral hyperopic defocus may drive axial length increases, so correcting for this with a dual focus length may reduce myopia.
