Myopia management recommendations created for practitioners

Johnson & Johnson Vision has created a list of myopia recommendations

Johnson & Johnson Vision has created a list of recommendations for eye care professionals to assess, monitor and treat myopia in children.

A guide, titled Managing Myopia: A Clinical Response to the Growing Epidemic, has been developed in partnership with optometric organisations in the US and Singapore.

Noel Brennan, optometrist and clinical research fellow for the Myopia Control Platform at Johnson & Johnson Vision, said: ‘Johnson & Johnson Vision, in partnership with leaders in eye health, has created this new myopia management guide as a clinical response to address the rising rates of myopia globally and solidify our collective commitment to combating myopia as a major threat to our children’s eye health.’

Recommendations in the guide include monitoring for myopia in children, securing early treatment, finding the right therapy, as well as measuring and monitoring efficacy.

The contact lens company said the guide added to the collective awareness, research and understanding of myopia and provided a research-based rationale for how and why children’s eye health should be prioritised.

Organisations that were consulted on the guide include the American Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry and the Singapore Optometric Association.

It has been created as part of a research partnership between Johnson & Johnson Vision, the Singapore National Eye Centre and the Singapore Eye Research Institute.
