New CET requirements to include peer review

Peer review continuing education and training for optometrists will be among the new minimum requirements for CET being developed by the General Optical Council as part of its revalidation scheme.

Peer review continuing education and training for optometrists will be among the new minimum requirements for CET being developed by the General Optical Council as part of its revalidation scheme.

Under the scheme optometrists and dispensing opticians will no longer be able to gain their minimum CET requirement in a single competency area and through just one modality such as distance learning as is currently possible.

At the Council meeting on June 17 it was revealed that minimum CET requirements for future cycles are being developed to include an assessment of the clinical skills of optometrists around methods of ocular examination and ocular disease. OOs will also be subject to peer review CET involving a review of their patient records and decision making.
