Amblyopia or having recovered amblyopia has no functional impact on children's movement development, self-esteem or adult socio-economic status, according to a new report in this month's Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Journal.
Researchers looked at recorded data of 1,037 Canadian children with amblyopia of 6/12 or less, possible amblyopia, recovered amblyopia after therapy and normal.
In contrast with other research there appeared to be no significant developmental impact, nor any on adult achievement. The study would undoubtedly add to the debate as to the need for a coordinated paediatric vision screening programme, said Optician clinical editor Bill Harvey.
