Chris Hunt, incoming master of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM), has awarded the 12th Ruskell Medal to a doctorate student at Oxford Eye Hospital.
Hunt (right) presented the medal and a small monetary award to Mandeep Singh (left), who is researching stem cell transplantation approaches for the treatment of inherited blindness.
He won the prize for his paper ‘Reversal of end-stage retinal degeneration and restoration of visual function by photoreceptor transplantation’, which was published in the US.
In addition, Dr Christine Tomkins was installed as upper warden and Edward Middleton as renter warden of the WCSM during the annual service on October 2.
