Plans for a new optometry programme have been unveiled by the University of Hertfordshire.
The university’s School of Life and Medical Sciences department said the integrated four-year MOptom programme would be developed in accordance with the standards established by the General Optical Council for accredited qualifications. The recruitment process to find a senior lecturer for the course has also begun.
‘The course is designed to appeal to students seeking a unique and progressive learning experience, taking advantage of our blended learning and teaching strategies which combine to enhance our students’ education by using a variety of multimedia interfaces,’ said a spokesperson for the university.
Collaborations with ‘prominent commercial partners’ and local NHS trusts to deliver first-hand experience to students were also promised.
The university said dates for the course would be confirmed by the GOC once confidence had been established and further details on the programme would be made available in due course.
