Eye health charity Orbis launches third generation of Flying Eye Hospital in US

After six years of development, eye health charity Orbis has launched its third generation of the Flying Eye Hospital at LA international airport with the support from ambassadorial supermodel Cindy Crawford.

Said to be the world’s only aircraft-based ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an aircraft, the jet has been built by hundreds of experts. It’s latest iteration features a modular design, 3D technology and live broadcast capabilities. The Flying Eye Hospital includes a 46-seat classroom, an IT room, consulting rooms, laser treatment and pre-and post-operative care rooms. The hospital suite comprises nine customised modules similar to commercial cargo containers.

After its showcase in LA, the Flying Eye Hospital will visit five additional US locations before jetting off to Shenyang, China, this September and Indonesia in November.
