A new scheme for patients with learning disabilities introduced by the Sutton, Merton and Wandsworth LOC received the backing of Carshalton and Wallington MP Tom Brake during the scheme’s launch at Wallington Opticians recently.
Brake, pictured with Sutton CCG joint commissioning manager for mental health Adrian Davey and SeeAbility trustee Gordon Ilett, said: I’m very pleased to support this initiative, which opens up the possibility of more eye tests being made available for people with learning disabilities. My role now is to promote the scheme and I will do all I can to do so.’
Practitioners heard that people with learning disabilities were 10 times more likely to have a sight problem but that just six out of 210 CCGs had commissioned adapted sight tests for them.
