A new technique called ocular UV fluorescence photography has been explained to attendees at two Johnson & Johnson organised education days.
Packed audiences learned how the eye provides a useful indicator of potential cellular damage due to radiation during a presentation by Australian ophthalmologist Professor Minas Coroneo last week.
The technique was able to show clearly the pre-clinical damage before lesions such as pterygia manifest. Professor Coroneo also noted there was a balance to be made between avoidance of radiation and ensuring adequate vitamin D synthesis by selective exposure to sunlight.
