Bayer and Taunton & Somerset NHS join forces to improve macular services

Bayer and Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust have joined forces to redesign macular services and improve patient care in the county.

A new imaging system has been made available along with a redesigned patient pathway, so better eye imagery can be retrieved and patients spent less time in a clinic.

Provisional data has shown that appointments, referrals and diagnoses happened quicker, and injection clinics have improved in efficiency.

Shantanu Gudsoorkar, consultant ophthalmologist at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton & Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘We are thrilled to already be reaping the benefits from the introduction of our new imaging system and new patient pathways using virtual clinics. These improvements are ensuring that more patients are being seen in a timely manner and also reducing the need for out of area referrals.’
