New UK mail CL offer launched

A new contact lenses by mail offer has been launched in the UK, this time by a group which describes itself as one of the country's largest independent contact lens practices.

As the profession waits for the General Optical Council to approve fresh rules regarding supervision (optician, News, October 9), optometrist Trevor Rowley, the owner of York-based Viewpoint, has launched Postoptics. The scheme, which is similar to others currently in use in Britain, offers convenience and savings on replacement contact lenses as long as the following four 'important points' are adhered to: Postoptics will only supply contact lenses that are 'absolutely identical' to those originally fitted. A valid contact lens prescription is needed, and has to be signed by the patient's practitioner. The patient must not be overdue a routine contact lens examination. Postoptics will not send more than six months' supply in each order. A brochure giving details is available. Although Mr Rowley tells prospective patients that mail-order contact lenses are widely available in the US, the issue of mail order is still to be clarified by the GOC in this country.
