moscotFifth-generation New York opticians and eyewear brand, Moscot, has opened its first UK practice in Soho, London.

The split-level practice, located on Beak Street, is the company’s third overseas outlet alongside three in New York City.

The company entered the Far East market two years ago with a practice in Seoul, South Korea. It then moved across the Sea of Japan to open a store in Tokyo earlier this year.

‘The opening of Moscot London is an exciting milestone for us. Carnaby St and Soho are recognised worldwide for their history in style, and the neighbourhood is genuinely a strong fit for the company,’ said co-president Harvey Moscot.

Officially founded in 1915 by Hyman Moscot, who began selling readymade spectacles from a pushcart some 15 years previously, the company has turned into an iconic eyewear brand offering vintage-style frames.

The lower-level will showcase vintage eyewear from the family’s archives and feature an interactive touchscreen experience for patients. The brand’s full ophthalmic frame and sunglass collections will be displayed upstairs.

‘While now recognised as a global fashion brand, the company remains, at heart, a neighbourhood optical shop,’ added Moscot.

The company said it was considering adding sight testing in the next few months.
