Newmedica’s surgical rates outperform nationals

Private eye hospital, Newmedica, has made surgical success rates public to show that it has outperformed national average rates of surgery complications.

Data from 2021 revealed that Newmedica had a rate of 0.32% of posterior capsule ruptures occurring during surgery, which was less than the national average of 0.67%.

Results came from nearly 25,000 cataract operations and have been made publicly available on the National Ophthalmology Database (NOD), an industry quality assurance regulator, compiled by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Nigel Kirkpatrick, medical director at Newmedica, commented: ‘The figures demonstrate that a patient is half as likely to have significant surgery complications in one of our centres compared to the UK average. All figures have been adjusted to take into account any variation in the complexity of surgery between different centres.
