The parents of a boy who had to have his right eye removed after doctors took two months to diagnose his cancer have received substantial compensation. A judge at Birmingham County Court awarded a five-figure sum to three-year-old Harvey Dellar's parents, which will be used to meet his future needs. They noticed his eye was turning inwards at the age of one, but after his optician referred him to Northampton General Hospital a 'basic administration error' meant that by the time of his operation the cancer had spread. His mother, Caroline Haywood, said: 'My son may not have lost his eye if he had been treated and diagnosed more quickly following the optician's concerns.'
