Luxottica posted an increase in net sales in the first quarter of 2011 to €1.556bn, an increase of 11.8 per cent on the same period in 2010 at constant exchange rates. The company's net income also increased, from €95m to €115m, a rise of 20.6 per cent. Its Western European wholesale business grew by 4 per cent over the quarter. Luxottica, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary, said the success was helped by double-digit growth for Ray-Ban and Oakley.

Optometry and dispensing optics students can now renew their General Optical Council registration online. Students must renew by the July 15 deadline or risk being removed from the registers.
