Gavin Winstanley, founder of Liverpool based high-street practice and online retailer Glasses123, became the third contestant to be fired from BBC television show The Apprentice. His team lost last week's challenge after they only managed to find six out of a list of 10 items for London's Savoy Hotel. The programme's host Lord Alan Sugar chose to fire Winstanley for his leadership of a poor team performance. He said: 'A task was out of hand, Gavin you're fired!'

Eyewear products manufacturer Carrera Optyl, owned by Safilo, is to cut its workforce by 150 to around 900. It reported that the cuts were due to a drop in demand.
