Latest NHS figures show an increase in the number of sight tests and vouchers paid for by primary care trusts and local health boards for England and Wales.
Between April and September 2005, 5.53 million sight tests were paid for by PCTs in England and LHBs in Wales, representing a 3.6 per cent increase over the total for October 2004 to March 2005 (5.34 million) and a 1.2 per cent increase from the total for April to September 2004 (5.47 million).
Vouchers were reimbursed for 1.99 million pairs of spectacles between April and September 2005. This marked a 4.8 per cent increase over the period October 2004 to March 2005 and a 0.5 per cent increase over the period April to September 2004.
