No to pay rise for locum-Bloggs

Richard Morris is opposed to Lyndon Taylor's idea of increased sight test fees in exchange for reduced voucher values, on the basis that Joe locum-Bloggs would vastly increase his wage instantly at the expense of the practice (optician, Letters, December 11). I have to say, I see no reason at all why Joe locum-Bloggs should expect a pay rise if the sight test were substantially increased and that the extra income generated should go towards the running of the practice. Joe locum-Bloggs should then negotiate for a mutually agreed pay rise, if any, from the practice. So, I feel Richard Morris should, perhaps, consider the possible benefits to himself, not just to locum optometrists. Andrew Jarvis Stalybridge, Cheshire
