NVQ course in demand

Demand by optical technicians and employers for qualifications in optical manufacturing has been growing strongly, according to the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers.
Twenty technicians are working for NVQs at Level 2 via City & Islington College. The first will complete their assessments using the on-sightlearning.com programme by the year end. The college expects to enrol a further 20 candidates shortly.
Over 80 students are studying Part 1 and Part 2 of the SMC(Tech). Focusing on technology of spectacles and lens making, the SMC(Tech) is carried out through the SMC correspondence course and day-release at City & Islington.
Gordon Jones, chairman of the SMC Awards Committee, said: ÔThese qualifications will help employers to demonstrate the quality of their workforce to customers and competitors alike.Õ
