The deadline for companies to respond to the questionnaire assessing the needs for the proposed NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) for optical technicians is next Monday, December 7.
The NVQ, and the introduction of a Modern Apprenticeship for technicians, are supported by several professional bodies, including the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (optician, News, October 30). Gordon Jones, project leader of the scheme for the Science, Technology and Mathematics Council, sent the questionnaire to manufacturers early last month. Companies involved can telephone or fax Mr Jones on: 0118 944 2877.
