A grant of £10,000 has been awarded by the Nystagmus Network to Southampton University Hospital to develop a new way of diagnosing the eye condition nystagmus.

The announcement was made to coincide with Wobbly Wednesday, which took place on November 5, and would allow ECPs to better understand the eye movements of babies.

Jay Self, consultant ophthalmologist at Southampton University Hospital, wanted to develop real-world tests of vision for people with nystagmus that were better than the simple letter chart.

‘By quantifying real-life visual problems for the first time, I believe we will show that us doctors routinely underestimate the visual problems faced by people with nystagmus. It will also help us prepare for clinical trials in the future,’ he added.
