Obituary: Daniel Roger Nicklin

Friends and family have reported with great sadness the sudden death of Roger Nicklin of Nicklin’s Opticians, Guildford.

An announcement sent to Optician this week said: ‘Roger had bravely battled with depression all his life but the final episode was too great even for him and he ended his life on May 29.’

The Guildford born and bred optometrist studied at City University in the late 1960s. After his pre-registration period with Bateman’s, he joined his father Barrie Nicklin at the family practice in Guildford, where he continued to work until his tragic death.

The tribute added he was always ‘a larger than life’ character, committed to his family but with interests including rotary, rugby, flying, sailing, skiing and motor bikes.
