Optometrist Arthur Baker died this month in London, aged 91.
In 2012 he became the oldest practising optometrist in the country, and despite later retiring from clinical work he continued to attend the practice he established in 1952 until a few weeks before his death.
After serving in the RAF during the Second World War, he qualified also as a primary school teacher, working in both professions for 30 years.
He served on his LOC for many years, was a freeman of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers and was active in the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women, Council of Christians and Jews, Freemasonry and sang in his synagogue choir for more than 50 years.
