Optician is saddened to report the passing of Huntly Taylor, past master of The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, on May 17, 2025.
Taylor began his optical career in 1971, qualifying as a dispensing optician with Rayners. Within a year, he was managing three of the company’s London practices.
In 1993, he acquired his first practice and went on to run Rayner + Taylor in Brighton until his retirement.
He was a founder director of the Eyecare Information Service (now the Eyecare Trust) and served for a decade on the Council of the Association of British Dispensing Opticians.
Taylor will be remembered not only for his contributions to the optical profession but also for his love of sport. A lifelong fan of Brighton and Hove Albion, he also had a passion for cricket, golf, football and, in recent years, horseracing.
