James (Jim) Geoffrey Patrick Collins passed away on January 22 after a short battle with cancer, aged 79.
His daughter, Tracy Brown said: ‘Jim started work in 1953 for Allied Instrument Manufacturers, a company run by H Binstead which later amalgamated with Clement Clarke (now Haag Streit). In 1958 he moved to Curry and Paxton and was involved with the design of their slit lamp and synoptiscope.
In 1991 he set up Sussex Vision International and for 18 years it sold to a worldwide market. After 56 years of working within the optical industry, he retired in 2009.
A memorial service will be held on April 22 at 2pm, St Nicolas Church, Arundel, BN18 9AT.
