A committed member of the Association since he joined in 1962, Mr Yeo was recognised as the longest-serving general councillor the AOP has had. Chairman of the AOP between 1988-89, he was also a member of the Optometric Fees Review Committee, and was chairman of the public affairs committee at the time of his death. In this role, Mr Yeo vigorously defended the profession in the face of accusations of prescription fraud, and spent much of 1997 helping to organise advice to affected members. In the AOP's annual report last year Mr Yeo was critical of health authorities who 'had tried to take a short cut to dealing with fraud or attempted fraud by calling in the police'. Mr Yeo collapsed and died shortly after a meeting at the association's headquarters on January 13. His funeral takes place on January 25, and those interested in attending should call the AOP for details. Mr Yeo leaves a wife, a son and daughter.
