Optician sadly reports the death of Professor Michel Millodot on October 28, 2021.
Millodot, a survivor of the Holocaust, was a well-travelled optometrist, with academia posts in Hong Kong, Jerusalem, the US, Canada and in the UK at the University of Wales in Cardiff.
As chair of the Department of Ophthalmic Optics in the mid 1970s, Millodot is credited with driving through a departmental name change to Department of Optometry, to better reflect the developing nature of optometrists around the world. It was the first optometry school in the UK to make such a change and paved the way for other establishments to follow suit, including the College of Optometrists, which was formerly the British Optical Association.
