Ophthalmic optician dies at the age of 91

Anthony (Tony) Critchley died peacefully at York District Hospital on July 9 aged 91.

Tony began his optical career in 1948, following in his father’s footsteps. During his National Service he was in the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Navy where he was as an aerial photographer. His son, Peter, said Tony trained as an ophthalmic optician at the Manchester College of Technology, after which he joined the family business, now known as Moorhouse Opticians. During his optical career he supervised over ten pre registration optometry students.

Tony served as a magistrate in Pontefract for 30 years and was an active member of the Rotary Club and a member of the Catholic organisation the Catenians. He was a quiet and private man who was very much loyal to his family and his work.
