After retiring in 1980, he moved to Pewsey, Wiltshire, where he undertook consultancy work. He leaves a wife, Louise, three grown-up children and two grandchildren. He was appointed to the position of ophthalmic officer for Northern Ireland in 1955, which he held until he returned to the UK three years later. 11 Optical manufacturer Wesley Jessen has appointed GILLIAN KENNEDY (above) as northern territory manager. Ms Kennedy, who will cover Scotland, Northumberland, Cumbria and Northern Ireland, joins with a background in pharmaceutical sales. She will be responsible for developing promotional activity for contact lenses including the company's FreshLook ColorBlends range. GLENN HUTT has joined optical group Scrivens as retail category manager. With more than 20 years' industry experience, he will be responsible for researching and developing the company's optical product ranges, including frames and contact lenses. Mr Hutt previously worked as professional operations manager for Boots Opticians. Dublin and UK-based software specialist Ocuco has recently announced two further appointments. ALICE AUSTIN has been promoted to UK managing director. She will be responsible for overseeing Ocuco's expanding sales and marketing team in the UK. ALAN CLARKE joins as sales manager, having held similar positions at Norville Optical, Newvision and Specialist Data Solutions. SIMON BURGESS has been appointed laboratory development manager for Vision Express. Mr Burgess will be responsible for recruiting and training optical lab personnel. He joins with several years' experience in the optical profession, and previously worked for Specsavers Opticians.
