Independent optical group scoops award

An independent optical group has scooped a community award at the annual East Anglia Daily Times Business Awards.

Observatory the Opticians, and its sister company Wardale Williams the Opticians, which have practices in Suffolk, Essex and Muswell Hill in London, won the Community Involvement award.

The ceremony took place at Trinity Park, Ipswich on July 6.

Each of the Observatory practices had developed a strong bond with its community, working to support schools, local and international organisations and charities, judges noted.

Observatory has launched an Eye Smart Campaign, working with two of their patients, Ralph McMurray and Keira Dixon, to raise awareness of the importance of regular eye exams. The couple attended the awards and joined in the celebrations.

Observatory the Opticians and Wardale Williams the Opticians MD Jonathan Foreman said: ‘We’re really honoured and pleased to have won the Community Involvement award. This is at the very heart of who we are and what we do as a business. Being able to give something back and support local people is a privilege and everyone in the company truly believes that we can make a difference to people’s lives. We were the smallest company in the finalists, and that kind of feels good too.’
