OFNC’s 7% proposal dismissed as GOS fees confirmed to rise by 2%

This will be a blow to primary eye care providers, warned OFNC

Optical practices offering NHS eye care services in England will benefit from a 2% increase to general ophthalmic services (GOS), including sight test fees, grants and patient voucher values.

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) confirmed the increase would come into effect from April, 2022.

Disappointment was expressed by the Optometric Fees Negotiating Committee (OFNC) after it proposed a fee increase of 7% to £23.26, instead of the confirmed £22.14.

An OFNC statement said the 2% increase would be a blow to primary eye care providers who have shown commitment to delivering care throughout the pandemic and reducing pressure on colleagues in secondary care.
