Ontario government bans eyeball tattooing following botched tattoo job

Members of the Ontario government have moved to ban eyeball tattooing after a young model suffered severe eye damage, following a botched tattoo job.

Catt Gallinger, 24, experienced temporary sight loss after her ex-boyfriend injected purple ink into the sclera of her left eye. A few hours after the procedure, Gallinger’s eye started leaking uncontrollably and became swollen as purple dye oozed down her cheek.

In an interview with Global News, the 24-year-old said that she was still suffering with blurred vision and had undergone several corrective procedures to improve her sight.

Following the incident, the Eye Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (EPSO) called for a ban on the sale of scleral tattooing and eyelid jewellery in a letter addressed to local Health Minister Eric Hoskins.
