OO issued needless Rx

OO made misleading amendments of patient records

Bury-based optometrist Jonathan Gains has been erased from General Optical Council registers after a fitness to practise panel heard he made misleading and dishonest amendments of patient records and issued unnecessary prescription recommendations for new glasses.

The committee had alleged that while working in Specsavers in Leigh, Gains had issued a prescription for vertical prisms that were not clinically indicated and then falsely amended the patient’s record. A second similar allegation was made against the registrant.

The committee, chaired by Ian Crookall, said: ‘The registrant had abused his position of trust. There were repeated errors which the registrant sought to cover up dishonestly.’
