Ophthalmologist wins 2019 Nettleship Medal

Moorfields ophthalmologist Sobha Sivaprasad wins 2019 Nettleship Medal

Consultant ophthalmologist at Moorfields Sobha Sivaprasad has won the 2019 Nettleship Medal.

Sivaprasad, who is also the editor of the Royal College of Ophthalmology’s (RCOphth) scientific journal Eye, will receive the medal due to her study being the first to highlight that an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor agent is a superior alternative to pan-retinal photocoagulation, an established retinopathy treatment that has been used for the past 40 years.

The medal will be awarded to her at the RCOphth Annual Congress in Glasgow on May 23, where she will present the study to delegates. This will be the first time that the Nettleship Medal has been awarded to anyone in 10 years.
