ABDO College announced at Optrafair it has agreed to take over the running of training courses provided by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM).

From September this year the college will take responsibility for day-to-day running and administration of the WCSM’s nationally accredited qualifications for optical technicians and retail staff.

The two organisations were engaged in a review of the existing programme ‘with a view to the introduction of a simpler, more easily understood suite of qualifications’. This included a proposed new level 4 qualification for optical retail staff to stand alongside the established SMC Tech.

Following the agreement, WCSM’s director of training Debbie Gigg joined the ABDO College as course co-ordinator optical support programmes.
